Nus secondary school participated to PhenoALP with the 2nd B class, which conducted phenological observations of three species: spruce, birch and hazel. The site is set in an urban environment and some specimens grow in the gardens of houses in the village. The average altitude of the study area is 550 m and the sunny conditions are excellent, since the village nestles on the slopes on the “adret” side, hence facing south.

"For secondary school children it is very important to be able to concretely discuss the scientific issues addressed in the PhenoALP project. Thanks to this project, scientific and theoretical study complement direct observation and the systematic collection of data, factors that help to complete the experience of understanding the scientific method. The opportunity to carry out the activity also out of doors the Institute enabled the students to explore the natural environment more fully, coming to understand that global dynamics have direct consequences on the local level, and that in this context, the contribution of all is essential.” Nus secondary school teachers.

3D Herbarium: "PhenoALP enabled us to understand and extend the study of the natural phenomena that affect the development of plant and animal life in our region. In particular, knowing that our work could really contribute to scientific research into climate change inspired us to work with even greater commitment. There were numerous difficulties in creating the phenological observation site, because our school is located in the middle of the village. In addition, many of us did not know the plants that were the object of study and could not recognize them in nature. For this reason we created this 3D phenology herbarium which shows the species we studied and illustrates the different phenological phases.” 2nd A class, Nus secondary school
