Phenocamera can be used to track plant phenology. A green index can be retreived from color information contained in digital image: the green index is low during winter, increases when leaves start to unfold, reaches maximum values in summer and starts to decrease in autumn during leaves yellowing.

An example of green index timeseries in some network sites. More information available here.
